Tabernacle Experience?

Courteous Reader,

Have you heard about the "Tabernacle Experience"? It made the front page of this week's Southern Baptist Texan newspaper, and was brought to my attention by a dear brother, a pastor in another Baptist church. I have been thinking about this phenomenon, and am concerned about some aspects of it.

Would you be interested in examining it with me? If so, let's start with the founder's statement about how she came to create the "Tabernacle Experience." Here's the link to her page:

What do you think about her description of her experience?

How do you think this verse applies here:

1Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

I look forward to reading your ideas.

Love in Christ,

Jeff

I will be brief and to the point. In my quick glance at this i see many issues but will only point out a few here. First, this is eat up with mysticism. God doesn't speak audibly, he has revealed Himself to us in His word and it is sufficient to equip us for every good work (2 Tim 3:16). Second, God no longer dwells in a place made with human hands which were shadows of the good things to come (Hebrews 9:24). She refers to the tabernacle as a mystery. Thirdly, kind of off topic here but a woman's ministry is explained to us in Titus 2 and women bible studies and retreats are not found. Just a few thoughts on what jumped off the pages.

Dear JW,

What do you think is happening when a person like this claims to have heard God whispering inside?

Love in Christ,

JRY
